DDoS actually made him "lose" the 7 servers. Windows server would have just required a reboot (at the most). I can imagine the linux server just completely locked up and started smoking. Then probably got caught in an endless fsck loop upon trying to boot it back up. Had a set of speakers been attached to it, it would have exploded the room with a mega-sonicboom at the logon screen.
