The problem with the current news cycle is the lack of Fact-Checking. The general rush to get the story out before your competitor comes at the expense of fact-checking.
This is actually a bigger deal than bias reporting. Because if we have bias information with factual information, someone can view multiple sources and get a bigger picture of what is happening.

Yeah, but it was also joked that "Trump lies so much he would lie about the weather.", so if he did claim it was blue, it most likely that it was one of those times it was really red or black.
This went from being a joke to reality after "SharpieGate".
So, just like we need to watch the watchers, we need to examine the source of the material in question as well when considering the validity of it.
